Home Decor Vases
Our website offers a great review on how to choose
the best and most affordable types of home decor vases. Decorative vases are everywhere. Sometimes it is the only thing needed to complete the look of a
room. Often they are used for functionality such as holding cut flowers but a lot of times they are
ornamental. This is often the case for regional vases such as Greek, Caribbean, Chinese, Asian, and North
American. Home decor vases can
add a touch of regional authenticity to any themed room.
VASE STYLES
The structure of the vase is fairly simple. It consists of a base, a long or round body,
and a slender neck with an opening at the top called a lip. Vases come in many different varieties. The Greek
civilization is responsible for influencing many of these varieties we see today. They can be large like a floor
vase or small like a bud vase, they can be slender or wide, and they can be made from many different materials. The
most popular are glass, porcelain, clay and crystal. There is a trend toward more modern style of vases such as
square, tulip, hurricane, stackable, bud, and the Eiffel Tower.
GLASS VASES
Glass vases are probably one of the most popular and easiest to find. They can range from
being very inexpensive to outlandish in price.
The Romans had a very important connection in the history of glass vases as they were the ones with which glass
-blowing originated. Blown glass vases are usually handmade and give the producer the freedom to take his design in
any direction.
Functionally, most glass vases are used for holding cut flowers. One can find an appropriate sized vase for holding
anything from a dozen roses to a single flower. The ornamental aspect can be shown by adding clear glass stones, a
drop of dye to the water, shells, etc. A colored glass vase gives vibrancy and can be used as a nice decorative
accent piece.
PORCELAIN VASES
Porcelain vases originated in China thousands of years ago, hence the name China.
Porcelain is a material that is hard, translucent, strong, and durable. Because of these qualities, it stands to
reason why these vases are so delicate and thin.
CRYSTAL VASES
Crystal vases are often thought of as the gift one would buy for someone special or for
that special occasion. They are very exquisite and are associated with elegant living. The difference between glass
vases and crystal vases is that crystal contains lead which makes it heavier. The added lead makes it easier to cut
and etch the glass. Crystal vases can be quite expensive but they can also be found affordable to fit within one’s
budget.
FLOOR VASES
Floor vases are perfect for filling that empty corner space in your room or office. They
are perfect either standing alone or holding large, stem-like dried florals. Porcelain, bamboo, onyx, stone,
marble, and wood are just some of the many materials they can be produced with.
Decorative vases can be very simple or very unique. It all depends on what the buyer is
trying to achieve. It is important that one thing does not take away from the other. A bright bouquet of flowers
would look perfect in a clear glass or a neutral colored vase instead of one with a lively fun-filled design. Just
as a bridesmaid shouldn’t deter from the bride, a vase shouldn’t deter from the flowers it is holding.
Each of these home decor vases bring their own unique beauty.
